AP onthult weer

Associated Press is nog steeds niet klaar met Democraat John Kerry. Zij hebben ontdekt dat hij minstens drie keer in zijn carrière in de Senaat individuen voor (her)benoeming op bepaalde functies heeft aanbevolen terwijl die personen net een dag eerder 1000 dollar hadden gestort in de verkiezingskas van Kerry. De functies waren in “federal home loan banks” (volgens mij zijn dat hypotheekbanken).
Zowel de drie aanbevolen personen als het Senaatskantoor van Kerry zeggen dat de timing van de donaties en de aanbevelingen puur toeval is. Stephanie Cutter, woordvoerster van de Kerry-campagne ligt de zaak toe: "Sen. Kerry recommends dozens of very qualified individuals each year without regard to their politics or contributions. In this case each of the individuals were highly qualified for the jobs they were appointed to and served with distinction.John Kerry is grateful for their support, and we should be thanking them for their service, not questioning it. The timing of the contributions was completely circumstantial."
Laary Noble, baas van het neutrale Center for Responsive Politics zegt dat het gewoon is in Washington dat mensen betalen vlak voor of na een nominatie voor een of andere functie: "This is just business as usual in Washington. Kerry is out there saying he is not being part of that game, yet he is the product of the same money system."
