President Bush werd geïnterviewd door Tim Russert, van NBC’s Meet the Press. In het interview verdedigde de president zijn besluit om Irak aan te vallen en ontkende hij in zijn National Guard-tijd verdwenen te zijn.
John Kerry ging na het interview meteen in de aanval. Hij beschuldigde Bush er van dat hij na de oorlog zijn reden om Irak binnen te vallen wijzigde.
Bush zei in het interview dat de aanval op Irak werd ingezet omdat de regering wist dat Saddam Hoessein in staat was massavernietigingswapens te ontwikkelen. Kerry: "This is a far cry from what the president and his administration told the American people through 2002. Back then President Bush repeatedly told the American people that Saddam Hussein has got chemical weapons. They told us they could deploy these weapons within 45 minutes to injure our troops. It was on that basis that he sent Americans' sons and daughters off to war."
Kerry herhaalde ook nog eens dat hij niet onvoorwaardelijk voor de oorlog in Irak heeft gestemd: "I said in my speech on the floor of the Senate, 'If the president makes an end run around the U.N. and doesn't fully honor the inspection process, I will oppose it. I voted very clearly for the process of honoring the U.N."
