Specialistische tijdschriften krijgen ook interviewtijd met de kandidaten, want specifieke groepen die de tijdschriften lezen kunnen interessante kiezersblokken zijn. Dus staan president Bush en John Kerry met een interview in het prachtblad Field & Stream, dat jagers en vissers als abonnees heeft. Op de vraag: waarom zouden jagers en vissers op u stemmen geven zij als volgt antwoord:
Bush: "One, I'm a sportsman. I love to hunt and fish. I love to fish more than I love to hunt, but I like bird hunting. So I understand what it means to be a fisherman and a hunter. I know that habitat matters, and that you can't have good hunting unless you've got game that is able to thrive because of where they live." Kerry: "I think sportsmen should vote for me because I understand the ethic of sportsmen. I hunt and fish and climb mountains -- I've been an outdoors person all my life and have an enormous respect for our relationship to the balance that's necessary to preserve that enjoyment. It takes conservation, it takes effort. There are a lot of things that aren't being funded that threaten the long-term enjoyment of sportsmen -- whether it's hunting or fishing." Stem op mij, want ik jaag en ik vis. Daar schieten de 10 miljoen lezers van Field & Stream dus niets mee op. Laura Bush en Teresa Heinz Kerry werden ingezet voor een koekjesbakwedstrijd georganiseerd door het tijdschrift Family Circle. Republikeinse Oatmeal-Chocolate Chunk Cookies tegen de Democratische Pumpkin Spice Cookies. Wie bakt ze het bruinst?
