Weer rechtszaak tegen FEC

Een Republikeinse en Democratische afgevaardigde in het Congres zijn in navolging van de Bush-campagne druk in de weer om een rechtszaak te beginnen tegen de Federal Election Commission, omdat die niets doet aan het stoppen van de onafhankelijke 527-groepen, die met onbeperkte soft money de kandidaten kan aanvallen in spotjes.
Afgevaardigde Christopher Shays (R): "The FEC has proven time and again they have no intention of closing the 527 loophole -- which they created -- and they've left us no option but to ask the courts intervene." Democratisch afgevaardigde Marty Meehan riep de FEC op "to ensure that 527 groups are playing by the same rules as other political committees spending money to influence federal elections."
John McCain steunt deze zaak van harte: "The commission's continued failure to enforce campaign finance laws ... is irresponsible, irrational and disgraceful," en hij vindt dat de FEC tekort schiet in de controle van zulke groepen.
